New construction and refurbishment of a school in the centre of Kristiansand, which will also benefit the local community.
Municipality:
Kristiansand
Developer:
Kristiansand kommune
Project description:
The oldest school in Kristiansand, built in 1871, is currently too small and will therefore be rehabilitated and extended to house 200 students, with the possibility of increasing the number of students to 250.
The property opposite the school is being developed into housing. The local council and the developers are considering a collaboration where school facilities that would offer synergies for use by the local community could be built as part of the housing development. This could include music/assembly rooms, workshops, and food and health facilities – totalling approximately 500 m². In addition to offering significant potential for shared use and serving as a resource for the local community, this would also free up space on a cramped school site and facilitate further expansion of the school in the longer term.
The project will focus on biodiversity and social sustainability, creating good social spaces for pupils during school hours, but also for others in the neighbourhood after school.
