Sjøparken, Stavanger

In 2023, the Municipality of Stavanger purchased the plot of land between Tou and the sea. Originally, two residential buildings were planned for the site. Now, a park will be developed on this central plot instead. This will be the first park project in FutureBuilt.

Prosjektbeskrivelse

Sjøparken, a seaside park at Storhaug in Stavanger is the first FutureBuilt pilot project managed by the municipality. Gray gravel will be transformed into green space using local plants and smart rainwater management, and the expansion of the park will explore new ways of creating recreational areas by the sea.

The aim is for the expansion of Sjøparken to serve as a model for the regeneration of natural and social infrastructure; in other words, the current areas of gravel and tarmac are to be largely restored to spaces dedicated to nature and culture. The park is located near a highly polluted harbour, and the project will raise awareness of biodiversity both underwater and in the transition zone between land and water. Hopefully, knowledge and experiences from this work will prove valuable for other projects along the coast.
